Hairstyles for Different Face Shapes

Face shape is very important factor of hairstyle suitability! Only particular types of hair styles will go well with specific facial shapes. The goal is to find what works with the structure of the face. Even a well executed hairstyle will look terrible on the wrong face shape.
For this reason, when choosing a new hairstyle, you should look carefully at the shape of your face. A well-suited haircut will promote and compliment positive facial attributes while minimizing non-pleasing ones. There are seven different face shapes: oval, round, long, square, heart, diamond and pear. Whichever one you fall into, there is a hairstyle that will work well for you.
Determining face shape is easy - pull your hair off your forehead with one hand, look into a mirror and trace the outline of your face on the glass with marker or lipstick. You can also do this with your photo.
Hairstyles for oval face shapesThe oval face is considered to be the ideal shape. However, there aren’t many people who have a perfectly oval face. Even proportions make oval faces especially versatile. People with an oval face shape can wear most hair styles and lengths. Slicked-backed looks are very good for this shape. Avoid hair styles that cover up your face such as heavy bangs or too forward-directed styles. Also, stay away from short layers since they will make your face appear long. Do not try a blunt cut if your hair is thick or curly. A classic long style with a center or side part is a good choice.
Hairstyles for round face shapesRound face shape is the rarest face shape. Round faces are characterized by a round chin. Your main goal is to minimize the appearance of roundness. You can do it by creating less volume around the face. You should avoid short hairstyles because they make your face look round. Exception is a short style with a swept-back direction. Long styles work well because they elongate the face. To elongate a round face, decrease the volume at the sides and around the ears. Increase length as well as the volume at the crown. Great styles are those that fall just below the chin. Wispy and tapered ends as well as soft, graduated layers are good bets.
Hair styles for long face shapesLong face is also called rectangular or oblong. If you fall in long face shape category your face needs shortening and widening. A long, straight style will emphasize the length. Avoid no fringe styles, too short and volume on top. The one haircut you should avoid if you have a long face is a bob. A full fringe will give a better balance. Add volume at the sides. Try to keep your hair off your face. This will make your face appear fuller. Good styles include brow-skimming bangs, chin-length bobs or shoulder-length bobs.
Haircuts for square face shapesSquare face shape have a square jaw line and hairline at the forehead. Choose a style that softens these features. You can wear your hair short or long. For square shapes, you must soft the edges. Avoid sharp cuts, one length, heavy fringes and bobs. If you prefer short hair, go for a layered cut. Insist on layers, not single-length styles or center partings. Hair should be layered around the face. Elongate the face by going for height at the crown. If you have longer hair, consider curls, let it fall past the shoulders and allow some soft layers or a grown out fringe to fall around the temples.
Haircuts for heart shape faceHeart shape face is widest at the temples and narrowest at the jaw line. Usually the chin is small, and pointy. The objective is to achieve width around the chin to change the appearance of a heart shaped face to an oval shape. You need width at the sides. Try your hair at around shoulder length and go for fullness from the chin down. Try soft waves and layers. The fringe should be full enough to cover part of the forehead to reduce the length. Avoid strong, blunt fringes. If you have a heart face shape you can still wear your hair long, but it should be messy or curly.
Hairstyles for diamond shape faceDiamond face shape - widest at the cheekbones and narrow in the forehead and chin. To make the illusion of an oval face, create width at the forehead and minimize it at the cheekbones. To balance the narrow chin, go for width and fullness in this area. If you go for a fringe keep it wispy. Also, try to avoid too much hair in your face.
Hair Style for Pear Face ShapePear or triangular shaped faces have a narrow forehead and are widest at the jaw line, with a round chin. To make the illusion of an oval face, create width at the forehead and temples. Or create a full fringe to balance with the jaw. Consider layers as well as tucking your hair behind the ears to draw attention to them. Don't let your hair grow past the neckline. Long, full hair styles are not good because they will draw attention to jaw line.

How to Dye Ginger Hair by Yourself

Red hair is not only beautiful, it's also rare. Hair can come in very different shades of red: dark auburn, copper, strawberry blonde, orange/red and ginger. Special precautions need to be taken when dying red hair because dying it the wrong shade could end up with the hair looking brassy and orange. Start by going to a beauty supply store and consulting with a professional to help pick out the correct shade of the color you're trying to get. Also, read the back the hair dye box well--the color shown on the model on the front of the box will more than likely not be your resulted color. Once you've got your color in the correct shade you can begin dying your hair.

Things You'll Need: Old clothes,  Plastic gloves, Hair color, Color developer, Color applicator, Scissors, Hair clip, Color conditioner.

Instructions:

    • 1
Put on old clothes and a pair of gloves to protect the skin and hands from the chemicals and the dye.
    • 2
Pour the hair color and the developer into the applicator bottle.
    • 3
Snip to the top of the bottle off to open the applicator. Put your finger over the cut hole in the top of the bottle and shake the bottle well to mix the color and developer together.
    • 4
Apply the hair color into sections starting at the top of the head working down. Completely saturate the hair with the color.
    • 5
Clip the hair on top of the head when finished dying the hair. Allow the hair color to set in by leaving it in for the specified time stated in the instructions. Different brands of hair dye will have different times to keep the hair color in; make sure you read the instructions thoroughly, don't just guess.
    • 6
Rinse the hair color out with water. Once the water runs clear, apply the color conditioner. Leave the conditioner in for 35 minutes, then rinse out.
    • 7
      Style hair as usual.

How to Use Olive Oil as a Hair Treatment

This simple olive oil hair treatment will not only make your hair soft and shiny, but you'll feel like you are treating yourself to a relaxing spa treatment right in your very own shower. Your hair is subjected to environmental pollutants and synthetic hair products every day. This barrage of unhealthy treatment can wreak havoc on your hair, causing it to appear dull. An olive oil hair treatment actually helps to reduce this buildup, nourish and condition your scalp and hair and replenish your hair's natural strength.

Things You'll Need:

  • Olive oil
  • Plastic shower cap
  • Bath towel
  • Microwavable glass or bowl

Instructions:

    • 1.Pour 1 to 1 1/2 cups of olive oil -- depending on the length of your hair -- into a microwavable glass or bowl. Microwave oil for 10 seconds at a time. Test on inside of your wrist after each 10 seconds of heating. Be extremely careful that the oil is comfortably warm -- not hot -- to the touch.

    • 2.Apply the warm oil generously to your hair with your fingers. Take a few minutes to really massage the olive oil in, using the pads of your fingers to gently work the olive oil into your hair and scalp in circular motions. Olive oil is full of vitamin E and is incredibly nourishing to the skin of your scalp. The massaging action also helps to improve circulation.

    • 3.Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap. Soak a bath towel in hot water and wring out. Wrap the warm, damp towel around your head. This will help to seal in the heat and ensure you reap the greatest benefits from your hair treatment.

    • 4.Spend 30 minutes relaxing while your nourishing olive oil hair treatment does its work. When your towel begins to cool off, re-soak it in hot water. Wring out and return towel to your head.

    • 5.Unwrap the towel and remove shower cap after 30 minutes. Rinse hair well and shampoo as usual.

New Ideas of Hair Highlights for 2015

Need a hairstyle change but afraid to go all the way? Highlights are the answer you are looking for, then. Adding highlights to your hair is a simple yet great way to bring vitality and freshness to your current hairdo. From subtle glows, to red-hot dip-dyes, to bold streaks, here below are 3 hot hair highlights ideas, take a look and get inspiration for you next new style.

1.Subtle Highlights
One of the timeless hot hair coloring trends for highlights is subtle. The reason why subtle style so popular is that it not only looks pretty, but unlike bold hair highlights that don’t suit all jobs, it is universally acceptable. Loads of celebs are super fan of subtle highlights, among them, Jennifer Aniston is definitely the queen of natural looking highlights that magnificently frame her face and look just so glam. There are a few rules that you need to remember if you want to achieve similar results, though –don't go too many shades over your natural hair color; go 1-2 shades lighter; ask your stylist to use thin strands on foil for this sun- kissed look.

2. Dip-Dyed Highlights Hair
From celebrities in Hollywood to girls on the street, dip-dyes are seen everywhere, proving it is one of the hottest hair highlight trends this summer 2015. Peach, blue, red, or yellow, you may choose whatever hair color you like to have fun. The key to pull this look off, though, is to have the base and the ends well graded. Too big a contrast might look cheap instead of natural. This season’s latest trend is purple, One of the celebrities who joined this club is Ashley Tisdale who looks fantastic with her purple ends.

3.Bold Chunks of Color
Katy Perry is the hair chameleon and we all hold our breath every time she decides on a new experiment. Here you can see her with bold deep blue and ruby highlights that give her this signature edgy look. If you want to show your bold inner, go for some extra bold colors that are 5-6 shades lighter than your hair hue like Katy Perry do here.

How to Get Silky and Smooth Hair

Celebrities are often seen on the red carpet with luxurious, shiny and beautiful hair along with a fabulous outfit to complete the total look. It may seem that it would take a high-end celebrity stylist, expensive styling aids and a miracle to get hair like a celebrity. As impossible as it may seem, however, you can accomplish this from home. All that's needed to get sexy, silky and smooth hair like a Hollywood star is a few styling products and a good hair dryer.

Things You'll Need: styling products, round brush, shampoo and conditioner, flatiron and hair dryer.

Instructions:

    • 1
Get a top-quality hair dryer. One with an attachable brush is ideal for ensuring that the hair is smooth. Otherwise, a round brush with a good-quality dryer will achieve the same results.
    • 2
Buy styling products to achieve shiny and silky hair. Shampoos and conditioners, leave-in conditioners, oil sheen and silicone serums can help you achieve that glossy shine. They also protect the hair from the heat exposed to it during the styling process.
      • 4
Towel-dry hair and apply leave-in treatment, shine serum or other styling product.
      • 5
Use a round brush (or attach the brush attachment to the hair dryer, if available) and blow-dry the hair. Apply slight tension as you brush through the hair. Blow-dry starting from the roots all the way down to the ends. Make sure that the hair is thoroughly dried.
      • 6
Use a flatiron to smooth out any wavy or frizzy areas. Sometimes the desired straightness can't be achieved with just a hair dryer and brush alone. Use the flat iron to bend the hair for a slight curl on the ends, or leave it straight for a sexy, sleek look.
      • 7
Apply a styling product to help your hair withstand humidity or to add additional shine. Try light oil sheen or other shine products.

Basic Hair Care Tips for Improving Your Hair's Health and Look

The following are some basic hair care tips that you can use to improve the health and look of your hair.

General
A healthy lifestyle will mean healthier hair for you. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and not eating nutritiously are not healthy for your hair.
Get enough sleep.

Hair Products (Gel, mouse, hair spray ...)
Avoid using hair styling products with alcohol which dries out hair.
Avoid putting hair styling products directly on your scalp; if you put it on your scalp you'll clog the pores on your head.

Swimming
Before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water.
When swimming where a cap to protect your hair from chlorinated water, if you choose not to wear a cap make sure you shampoo and condition your hair right after you are done swimming.

Drying
Hot air can be damaging to your hair so when using a hair dryer use the cool setting.
Don't leave the blow dryer in one spot for more than a few seconds, keep it moving and at a good distance away from your hair.
To speed up the drying process, pat your hair dry with a towell and let the remaining moisture in your hair dry naturally.
Gently use your fingers or a pick to untangle any knots while your hair is drying.

Combing/Brushing
Use a brush whose bristles are made from natural animal hairs, it is softer and more flexible, which means less damage will be done to your hair.
Hair is most fragile when it is wet so avoid brushing or combing when it's wet, or else it will cause breakage. Wait until your hair is almost completely dry before brushing it.
Use brushes/combs with widely spaced bristles/teeth and smooth tips. Sharp tooth combs can damage your hair, cause split ends, and scratch your scalp.
To keep your brushes and combs clean, wash them weekly using soap or shampoo.
Comb your hair to remove any tangles before brushing it.
Begin by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out and work your way up to the base of your hair.
Always brush/comb with a downwards stroke.
Avoid using plastic brushes/combs which create static electricity

Shampooing and Conditioning
Buy shampoos & conditioners that match your hair type. Trial and error is the best way to find out what specific hair product is best for your hair.
Shower with warm water; hot water can dry and/or irritate the scalp.
It is important to wash your hair; shampooing removes dirt, dead skin cells, hair oils, any hair products you may put into your hair.
When shampooing, rinse your hair out before applying any shampoo to remove any dust, dirt, and any other foreign items, then apply the shampoo onto your scalp and massage it gently with your finger tips and work your way outwards. After you are done make sure that you thoroughly rinse out your hair to remove any shampoo residue that may be left. Shampoo residue may dry your scalp/hair and or attract dirt. It is recommended that you only lather once to avoid drying your hair out. If you have oily hair, lathering again may stimulate your oil glands to create even more oil than normal.
You should wash your hair as often as you feel necessary to keep it clean but a general rule for oily hair is that you should wash it every day or every other day and for dry hair only wash it 2-3 times a week.
Try rotating the shampoo and conditioner periodically, your hair responds differently to different products.
Use a conditioner after shampooing; it'll moisturize your hair, give it extra protection, add shine, reduce static, and makes it easier to untangle.
Use a leave in conditioner; it'll hydrate and protect your hair. A leave in conditioner on your hair is the equivalent of moisturizer on your face.
When conditioning your hair, try to spread conditioner evenly through out your hair and leave it in for a couple of minutes before rinsing out your hair.
Put the conditioner in at about an inch away from the scalp, the roots of your hair contain the most oils and usually don't need the extra conditioning.
Be gentle when shampooing and conditioning. Don't use excessive force rubbing your hair, remember hair is most vulnerable when wet.

Hairstyle Ideas for Going Out

We all want to look special for a big night out. With the right tricks and tools, you can achieve a red carpet-worthy hairstyle that will give you that extra boost of confidence to impress your date or just your friends.

The High Ponytail

  • This easy and sophisticated look has been made popular by celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Heidi Klum. The key to making it different from the bad-hair-day ponytail is to keep the sides sleek and the tail high, while creating volume at the crown. Smooth dry hair with a glossing serum or extreme hold gel. Brush through. Gather all of your hair into a high ponytail, smoothing the sides with a bristle brush as you go. Secure with an elastic band. Now, divide the ponytail into two sections with your thumbs and pull both sections firmly toward your ears. This will pull the hair even tighter at the sides and create volume on the top of your hair. Smooth any stray ends with a soft brush and spray with hairspray. Rebrush the tail to smooth.

Straight and Sleek

  • This look is best on shoulder-length or longer hair. The key elements of this look are a flat iron and glossing spray. Hair should end up super shiny and straight with no frizz. Apply styling cream and straightening lotion to hair. Blow dry hair straight in small sections, using a round brush to pull the hair firmly while you apply heat. Next, use a flat iron on your entire head, clipping up in sections as you go. Get a friend to help you with the back if you haven't done this before. When finished, unclip hair and smooth gently with a soft bristle brush. Hold a glossing spray 4 to 6 inches away from your hair, and spray in a fine mist. Smooth any flyaways with your hands.

Beach Hair

  • This hairstyle is great for curly or wavy hair and leaves you with a tousled, sexy look. Add styling mousse or cream to damp hair. Next, spray in a surf spray (available from John Freida or Bumble and Bumble) and flip head over, scrunching ends and running your finger through the hair. Let hair dry almost completely and then finish, head upside down again, with a blow dryer set on cool. Keep it messy, and spray on a shine spray with gold shimmer.

Messy Updo

  • This is a great look if you're pressed for time or coming from the office or off the beach. Brush dry hair and rub in a few drops of smoothing cream or shine serum, distributing evenly through hair. Pull back into a low ponytail, securing with two turns of an elastic. Now, pull hair through the elastic a third turn, but before pulling hair all the way through, stop. This will leave you with a small bun and some wispy ends hanging out. If you have bangs, sweep them to the side, and let a few tendrils of hair fall loose around your face. Finish with a silk flower or a pretty crystal clip on the side or at the back.

Tips

  • Use a combination of styling products to help your look stay all night; no single product can do it all.
  • Hair is easier to work with when its not freshly washed. Second-day hair has more shine and stays put.
  • Find a celebrity whose look is similar to yours, and check out her website photo gallery to get ideas for more hairstyles. Celebrities have highly paid professionals working with them; you can get the look for free.
